Tackling Rogue Landlords
The East Marsh Liberal Democrat team are committed to improving housing and neighbourhood environments for residents in the East Marsh.

There are numerous good landlords in East Marsh who already provide a good standard of accommodation, but a growing number of rogue landlords are cashing in on the ability to charge rents, while forcing people to live in dangerous conditions with minimal to no support.
Poor quality housing can have a serious detrimental effect on a tenant's mental and physical health, as well as the surrounding environment. Therefore, by improving the quality of private rented accommodation, the surrounding community will benefit too.

Lib Dem campaigner Loyd Emmerson said, "Everyone has the right to a safe and secure home with clean alleyways. A good well run scheme with stronger enforcement will protect responsible landlords, enhancing their reputation, while tackling the rogues, who are operating below the radar, flouting the law, and making lives a misery."
Therefore the East Marsh Liberal Democrat team have called on NELC to implement Selective Licensing in East Marsh, as a key tool to help tackle poor quality homes and unkept alleyways. This campaign was first started by LibDem Cllr Steve Beasant back in 2012.

However, the latest Council Plan brought to Full Council stated potential delays to the implementation of Selective Licensing, to which Cllr Nicola Aisthorpe expressed disappointment and again, highlighted the urgent need for it.
Following this intervention from Nicola, the Leader of the Council pledged to look again at Selective Licensing to make sure it is implemented sooner than the Council Plan states, reporting back to Cllr Aisthorpe.
Time and time again, our area is being let down by both the Conservatives and Labour – only the Lib Dems are pushing for Selective Licensing to help tackle rogue landlords.
